Joseph Harold Spence LACEY (1906 - 1984) details, it is mentioned that part of his eductaion was at Woolich. Is this the correct spelling. | Comments: | My family come from the de Lacey's of Kildare, Ireland. The Irish connection still live within 20 miles of the castle built by the son of Hugh de Lacy. Hugh de Lacey was given lands by William around Whalley & Clitheroe - 15 miles outside Preston, which is still in a good state of repair. Hugh built his castle at Clitheroe and gave land at Whalley to the church where an abbey was built. | Comments: | My understanding is that our branch of the Lacey family originated from France during the Norman Conquests,, originaly known as the De Lacy family. The "De" was dropped and the "e" included in the surname making it simply Lacey. reason apparantly was because the Brits were understandably anti French, and as they wanted to settle in this fine land of ours they fely it was the best thing to do |
